2012: One Small Step For the Mayan Calendar, A Quantum Leap Year For Humankind | Institute for Communications Resources

Once again, the Universe remains ever-changing, same as always, purring in perfection. You’d think that at that age, the Universe would be slowing down, but no — it’s still expanding. I predict it won’t be long before they have to let the photon belt out another notch

Oregon’s SB 1552 Analyzed – Mandatory Mediation Law (For Trust Deed Foreclosures) and More! - Cascadian Resource Center - Your regional resource center for a green, sustainable future!

On March 5, 2012, the Oregon Legislature passed a sweeping series of changes to its trust deed foreclosure law, SB 1552. Once signed by the Governor it will become effective 91 days hence. What follows is a summary of (a) the new mandatory mediation law that, after the effective date, will apply to the non-judicial foreclosure of all residential trust deeds; and (b) some important changes to the existing laws governing judicial and non-judicial foreclosures. Between now and the effective date, the Oregon Attorney General’s office will promulgate rules to implement the mediation program. Until then, all we have for guidance is SB 1552 itself. This summary is for informational purposes only and should not be viewed as “legal advice”. Those interested in seeing if the new law may apply to their particular situation should consult with their own legal counsel.

Review of Film "I Am" | Ashland Resource Center

I saw this incredible film last year and it had a life changing impact on my world view. I saw it three times in the theater. I even took my kids. Our education system does NOT teach us about ourselves as human beings. We are not told how amazing we all are and how connected we are to each other. We are not given the necessary tools to do a better job at being human and this is the simple reason why we are failing each other.

Sacred Economics by Charles Eisenstein

Sacred Economics traces the history of money from ancient gift economies to modern capitalism, revealing how the money system has contributed to alienation, competition, and scarcity, destroyed community, and necessitated endless growth. Today, these trends have reached their extreme - but in the wake of their collapse, we may find great opportunity to transition to a more connected, ecological, and sustainable way of being.

SOU may reprimand arrested protester

When Shaun Franks was arrested for protesting student loan debt in Washington, D.C., over spring break, he never imagined his own university would consider imposing additional punishments on him.

Franks, 26, was arrested for sitting on private property at the office of Sallie Mae, a private corporation that provides student loans.

The protest had been organized by the U.S. Student Association, a national student group known for political activism.

Franks was one of two Southern Oregon University students arrested, and one of nine who participated during the 300-person protest.

2012 Juried and Audience Award Winners Announced

The Ashland Independent Film Festival tonight announced the 2012 juried and audience award winning films at a gala Awards Celebration at the Historic Ashland Armory. Eleven awards were presented to attending filmmakers, honoring their work screened at the 11th annual festival.

The 2012 AIFF Artistic Achievement Award was presented to Julie Taymor at the Awards Celebration, in recognition of her groundbreaking achievements in independent film, which AIFF Executive Producer, Anne Ashbey Pierotti, likened to "a delicious, and surprising, and deeply satisfying meal that makes you want to stay at the table all night." In her acceptance speech, Taymor emphasized the importance of the film festival experience in providing venues for live audience-filmmaker interactions. The AIFF presented "Essential Transformation: In Conversation with Julie Taymor," an on-screen interview conducted by Oregon Shakespeare Artistic Director Bill Rauch, and featured sold out screenings of Taymor’s films "Across the Universe" and "The Tempest."
