About Energy, Shelter & Infrastructure

Photovoltaics & Solar Hot Water

Energy

In physics and other sciences, energy (from the Greek ἐνέργεια - energeia, "activity, operation", from ἐνεργός - energos, "active, working") is a scalar physical quantity that is a property of objects and systems which is conserved by nature. Energy is often defined as the ability to do work.

Several different forms of energy, including kinetic, potential, thermal, gravitational, sound energy, light energy, elastic, electromagnetic, chemical, nuclear, and mass have been defined to explain all known natural phenomena.

While one form of energy may be transformed to another, the total energy remains the same. This principle, the conservation of energy, was first postulated in the early 19th century, and applies to any isolated system. According to Noether's theorem, the conservation of energy is a consequence of the fact that the laws of physics do not change over time.

Although the total energy of a system does not change with time, its value may depend on the frame of reference. For example, a seated passenger in a moving airplane has zero kinetic energy relative to the airplane, but non-zero kinetic energy relative to the earth.

Infrastructure

Infrastructure typically refers to the technical structures that support a society, such as roads, water supply, waste water, power grids, flood management systems, communications (internet, phone lines, broadcasting), and so forth. In the past, these systems have typically been owned and managed by local or central governments.
These various elements may collectively be termed civil infrastructure, municipal infrastructure, or simply public works, although they may be developed and operated as private-sector or government enterprises. A more generic definition of infrastructure is the network of assets "where the system as a whole is intended to be maintained indefinitely at a specified standard of service by the continuing replacement and refurbishment of its components."

Mission Statement:

Is the most abundant component of the universe, from the visible sun and cosmic rays burning down on the planet, to chemical actions and reaction, to the invisible etheric energies available to those sensitive enough to notice.

Renewable energy is the acknowledgement of a life, of a planet in balance, to not consume the fossil fuels bank account deposited eons ago for the short-term goals of a greedy few.

Renewable energy from the sun and non-polluting hydrogen, biomass and wind to light our way through the darkness of these times.

Exploring new technologies and free energy from the infinite density and energy of space.

1Q09 cleantech investment review | Cleantech Group

Clean technology venture capital investments in 1Q09 were down 41 percent from the previous quarter, and down 48 percent from the same period a year ago. Venture investments have now declined for two consecutive quarters since peaking at $2.6 billion in 3Q08, representing the lowest level of venture capital investment in clean technology companies in two years.

Listening Arts

One of the greatest challenges for the custom building and design professional is managing the ongoing exchange of client communication. In an industry where attention to detail defines success, project communication procedures are often non-existent. Relying on the recollection of conversations, phone calls and e-mail is a prescription for costly breakdowns and unhappy clients. Regularly facilitated meetings, follow-up documentation and accountability tracking minimze uncertainty inherent in the construction process. This weekly routine maintains trust and mutual understanding - the heart of customer satisfaction and project success.

President Obama Gets Green Building for the 21st Century | Greentech Media

As a long-time investment banker, I'm a believer in reality – not irony. But I do find it ironic that the real estate and construction sectors are both the problem and solution as we try to work our way out of the worst economic crisis since the Great Depression.

Waking Giant News

Thank God for Evolution by Michael Dowd | Plume Paperback

What follows is the new preface...

As we observe the 200th anniversary of the birth of Charles Darwin and the 150th anniversary of his landmark book, On the Origin of Species, evolution has become firmly established as the central organizing principle of the biological sciences. Natural explanations for the growth of complexity through time ground all the other sciences, as well, from cosmology and chemistry to neuroscience and psychology. That everything within this universe has emerged through natural processes operating over vast spans of time is now well beyond dispute among scientists and the educated public. Yet even today, families and public school systems remain divided and the evolutionary worldview is still shunned by millions, perhaps billions, of religious believers around the world. Why?
