Friends of the Animal Shelter - FOTAS!

VIDEO of MACY - Pit Bull Mix - White with Black - Posted 2/20/2010

WATCH A SHELTER DOG VIDEO

Click on this VIDEO OF MACY Pssst...Once the page opens you'll need to click on the "View Video" link.

MACY is very smart, gentle natured, and a bit shy. This female Pit-X is approximately 1 to 2 years old. She gets along with other dogs, but is timid of cats. She has a gentle mouth, loves playing ball, learning new things, and being pet and loved. The video above shows how quickly she taught herself to walk up the agility A-frame (usually takes coaxing/training for most shelter dogs). Macy is up-to-date with routine shots.

As of March 3rd, MACY is still at the Jackson County Animal Shelter (Case ID: K0191) on So. Pacific Highway (Hwy. 99) in Phoenix, Oregon. Visit the shelter between 11 - 4 Mon to Fri. and 12 - 4 Sat to Sunday to see him or other abandoned/stray pets, or call 541-774-6654 for more info.

What brought you Southern Oregon and Ashland area?

Friends of the Animal Shelter (FOTAS)

is a non-profit 501(c)(3) organization formed in 1990 to support the programs of the Jackson County Animal Shelter (JCAS), located in Phoenix, Oregon. The FOTAS mission is:
- Increasing pet adoption at the Jackson County Animal Shelter
- Improving the quality of life for the Shelter's animals
- Promoting spay and neuter of domestic animals

Do You Want To Help Animals & Support FOTAS?

Please call 541-774-6646 or check the www.fotas.org website if you are interested in getting involved in FOTAS volunteer and foster programs, donating to FOTAS, or learning more about our Board of Directors. (Please do not use this ARC site's message/comment areas to ask specific questions/leave messages for FOTAS).

Animals at the Jackson County Animal Shelter usually come from one of two sources:

Pets are either given up by guardians who cannot -or will not -keep them, or they are rescued strays. Our animal shelter is the only public shelter in Jackson County, and accepts strays as well as owner "surrenders." However, although people generally believe the animal shelter is a county-funded agency, our shelter does not receive any money from the General Fund.

How Does FOTAS Help the Shelter Animals?

Volunteers with Friends of the Animal Shelter help the animals by:
- Searching for qualified homes through both shelter-based and off-site adoption programs
- Exercising, loving, and in other ways keeping the animals healthy and in good spirits until a good home can be found
- "Fostering" select animals in their homes short-term when circumstances require
- Helping facilitate adoption counseling at the shelter (specially trained volunteers only) and being trained as "puppy walkers"

Funds donated to FOTAS are used in several ways. Here's three examples:
- When the shelter lacked sufficient funds to buy the projected amount of innoculations for a new "puppy season," FOTAS raised money to purchase the needed material
- A "WOW" program presently exists, meaning that some older or special need animals may be selected to have their shelter adoption fee (normally $80 for dogs/$65 for cats) reduced (to $55 for WOW dogs, and $40 for WOW cats), with FOTAS making up the monetary difference
- Some shelter animals requiring medical care may have their vet and hospital bills paid through the FOTAS medical fund.
- And, there's much more, naturally...

In addition to direct care and adoption promotion, FOTAS volunteers provide administrative, fundraising, and outreach services. The Shelter staff rely on our volunteers to help with these critical functions, so that the staff has more time for direct care of the animals.
What products, services, information or resources would you like to share, offer, give, sell, or exchange locally or regionally?

FOTAS Also Hosts Special Fund-Raising Events, including:

- The Annual Puss 'n Boots Costume Ball (in October)
- Dog Washes in Ashland and Medford, Oregon (during the summer)
- The Jacksonville Mutt Strut (in May)

The Friends of the Animal Shelter volunteers are also on-hand helping during the Low-Cost Shot Clinics (and Low-Cost Nail Trims) held at the Jackson County Animal Shelter on the third (3rd) Saturday of every month, from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m.
Please describe any projects or businesses you'd like to develop locally or regionally, if any?

FOTAS Would Like To:

- Increase the number of animal "foster parent" volunteers
- Continue to attract and maintain committed volunteers who are available to be on-site walking and playing with the dogs and cats at the animal shelter every week
- Encourage all pet owners to spay or neuter their pets
- Continue to receive monetary donations that make the lives of shelter animals so much more pleasant. Donations make our work possible - and successful. If you'd like to volunteer with FOTAS or help in some capacity, please call 541-774-6646.

NOTE: Animals shown in our photos and videos may been adopted previously. Call or visit the Jackson County Animal Shelter on Hwy. 99 in Phoenix, Oregon, for up-to-date information. Click SHELTER VIDEO to learn about the animal shelter.

Food - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Food is any substance, usually composed of carbohydrates, fats, proteins and water, that can be eaten or drunk by an animal, including humans, for nutrition or pleasure. Items considered food may be sourced from plants, animals or other categories such as fungus or fermented products like alcohol. Although many human cultures sought food items through hunting and gathering, today most cultures use farming, ranching, and fishing, with hunting, foraging and other methods of a local nature included but playing a minor role.

Understand Consciousness, Part II: Foods | NaturalNews

As talked about in "Understanding Consciousness" part 1, a large part of our consciousness comes from our thoughts and thought patterns. But a large part of our consciousness also comes from what we put inside our bodies. The foods we eat literally affect our consciousness and probably more than most realize.

Raw Spirit Festival

Raw Spirit International 2010 is a full three-day event featuring two stages (Lake and Meadow Stages) with mixed musical performers and dynamic health-eco-peace research presenters amidst stunningly-beautiful natural backdrops. Additionally, the Sacred Exercise Area (featuring an eclectic array of yoga, chi kung, tai chi, pranayama, poetry, prayers, meditation and beyond) is perched atop the lakeside cliff once again with spectacular vistas of the surreal jagged lake, it's sheer-rock shores and many islands. The Raw Vegan Demos and Tastings are once again in the Hilltop Pagoda with sweeping vistas of panoramic mountains.
