Food is any substance, usually composed of carbohydrates, fats, proteins and water, that can be eaten or drunk by an animal, including humans, for nutrition or pleasure. Items considered food may be sourced from plants, animals or other categories such as fungus or fermented products like alcohol. Although many human cultures sought food items through hunting and gathering, today most cultures use farming, ranching, and fishing, with hunting, foraging and other methods of a local nature included but playing a minor role.
As talked about in "Understanding Consciousness" part 1, a large part of our consciousness comes from our thoughts and thought patterns. But a large part of our consciousness also comes from what we put inside our bodies. The foods we eat literally affect our consciousness and probably more than most realize.
Raw Spirit International 2010 is a full three-day event featuring two stages (Lake and Meadow Stages) with mixed musical performers and dynamic health-eco-peace research presenters amidst stunningly-beautiful natural backdrops. Additionally, the Sacred Exercise Area (featuring an eclectic array of yoga, chi kung, tai chi, pranayama, poetry, prayers, meditation and beyond) is perched atop the lakeside cliff once again with spectacular vistas of the surreal jagged lake, it's sheer-rock shores and many islands. The Raw Vegan Demos and Tastings are once again in the Hilltop Pagoda with sweeping vistas of panoramic mountains.
The shelves of our grocery stores are filled with genetically-modified (GM) vegetables, also known as Frankenfood. But what's scariest about Frankenfood is not simply that scientists are manipulating DNA, but that they are not testing it before the food is sold to the public to be consumed!

Yes,EarthTeach would be a great place for a teen retreat. As it's still quite wet and wintery, I'd recommend that you come explore the land in the spring - after our pathways have started to dry out a bit. You're welcome to contact our community office and arrange to meet someone who can give you a mini Park "tour," and tell you more about your options for bringing youth to EarthTeach. Our website is also a great resource for exploring some of the various other programs that we host, as well as seeing some nice photos of the land itself. Reconnecting people to nature - especially young people - is a huge part of why EarthTeach Forest Park exists and moves forward. It will be good to make your acquaintance in person.
Be well, Martha
glad you checked out my blog. We are living in the woods near Jacksonville on some friends' land. We are paying a little rent, waiting for the opportunity to buy our own land.
We've soured a bit on joining an existing community--but not irretrievably so. It's just that the communities we visited entailed major compromises that we weren't willing to make. We don't want to become vegetarians, or polyamorous, or adopt christianity, you know? We've also learned that the majority of communities are friends and family who buy land together. This is something we're looking into now.
