How Things Measure Up.....

Dear Conscientious Friends,

If you’re considering whether to donate locally to unique natural resource, please read on.

These are budget-minding days and knowing where each hard-earned dollar goes can be a source of comfort and clarity. Here’s short list of how some of EarthTeach’s expenses measure up to many that show up in daily life:

$2.50 buys a two pounds of local organic apples, or a small ice cream cone in a local parlor. At EarthTeach, this amount funds the tank of gas used to… Continue

Profile Information

Do you live in Ashland or the southern Oregon area? If yes, then what are you seeking?
EarthTeach Forest Park ~ A Fairly Big Place & A Very Big Idea! ~ located 9 miles southeast of Ashland, Oregon
What brought you Southern Oregon and Ashland area?
EarthTeach Forest Park emerged in 1995 through a public charitable trust, founded by the family of Virginia Way and John Cotton of Ashland, Oregon.
Under the visionary guidance of Peter Way Cotton, a handful of committed community and family members, in true grass roots style, have turned the 1680 acres formerly associated with a lumber business, into a quasi-public park.
To learn more about the Park's history, it's present ~ programs, partnerships, advisory council, and its intentions for the future, please visit our website: www.earthteach.org
What products, services, information or resources would you like to share, offer, give, sell, or exchange locally or regionally?
EarthTeach Forest Park is remarkably unlike any other educational resource in Southern Oregon.

It is 1680 acres of meadow and forestland that is dedicated to experiential learning in nature. It hosts personal growth, life passage, and community-building programs through challenge course experiences, wilderness awareness programs, arts-in-nature and leadership development camps.

IT IS A PLACE FOR ALL PEOPLE of all ages to connect with nature and themselves. Most especially, for youngsters it is a safe, wild setting in which to explore, learn, and play. These experiences are rare and special gifts with life-enriching potential. What is also unique about EarthTeach is that you readily come to feel like it belongs to you. That is because it does.

On the surface, a park - urban or wild - provides us opportunity for passive contact with the out of doors. Through the programs at EarthTeach, amidst untamed meadows, boulders, marshes, trees and cliffs, people of all ages are invited to experience something more profound. Assertive contact that combines creativity with hiking, critical thinking with outdoor arts, decision-making with high ropes, and environmental awareness with a labyrinth walk. With learning that is physical, emotional, and spiritual, a unique, perhaps wilder and deeper, understanding of the natural world and oneself emerges.

Of all the gifts passed forward, this may be the most wonderful of all for visitors at EarthTeach Park.
Please describe any projects or businesses you'd like to develop locally or regionally, if any?

Dear Friends of EarthTeach Forest Park,

I’m writing you on behalf of EarthTeach Park, our community’s nearby natural resource that has provided safe, wilderness educational adventures and opportunities for people of all ages, especially the youth of Southern Oregon, for over a decade. The reason for my letter is simple, EarthTeach ‘s membership fund raising goal between today and December 31, 2008 is $20,000. We need your help.

Consider the ways EarthTeach has grown every year: most of its youth programs doubled in the past four years, and the number of new visitors has grown by 200 annually; EarthTeach is now the year-round “extended campus” for Ashland’s John Muir School, ninety percent of the seasonal programs will return in 2009 for a fifth (or more) year, and EarthTeach’s KINship (Kids In Nature) Scholarship fund sponsored over $8,500 in youth scholarships this past year.

As a unique community park, we do not charge admission, and as a venue for group programs, our fees are nominal. For twelve years we have been committed to keeping EarthTeach accessible to all groups wishing to use, explore, and learn on the land. Because we receive no state or federal funding, we count on donations and grants to keep our organization vital and growing.

$20,000 is a lot of money to raise; however, as a group I know we can do it before December 31. Every dollar counts and whether you can make a $20 or $200 donation, it will mean that EarthTeach will continue to thrive. And, your donation is 100% tax-deductable.

Please make your membership pledge payable to EarthTeach Forest Park, then print out a pledge form (found at this link: http://www.etfp.org/page101/pledgeform/pledgeform.html ) and send it to ~ EarthTeach Forest Park Office 76 Dewey Street Ashland, Oregon 97520

I want to thank you ahead of time for your generosity and willingness to help achieve our goal. If you would like further information about EarthTeach Park feel free to contact me directly.

Sincerely Yours, ~ Martha L. Phelps

Hey Martha, yes, please do share my comments in whatever way you want. I recently gifted a 10 year old friend of mine a day at the Labyrinth with guests of her choosing for her birthday present. Would love to have you their sharing the history and your deep connection to the natural world. I'll let you know when it's happening ... maybe we can meet up. I'm sending in a donation for your fundraiser too. Let me know if there is anything else I can do!

Hi Martha, good to "bump" into you again ...and lovely to share space with you at ARC.

I want to share a good word about Earth Teach Forest Park. It continues to be a wonderful resource for my personal well-being. I simply take myself there when I need to connect to the magic of the trees and forest and earth in a profound way. Something about the energy of the place ... perhaps it's the love and care with which it has been held all these years. The labyrinth is one of my favorite places of all. With each journey through the labyrinth I have been inspired with beautiful blessings of awareness and awakening. I have shared the park with many friends and will continue to do so.

I urge others to support the park and to make use of this beautiful community resource. Thank you and all those who continue to keep it alive and healthy.

Food - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Food is any substance, usually composed of carbohydrates, fats, proteins and water, that can be eaten or drunk by an animal, including humans, for nutrition or pleasure. Items considered food may be sourced from plants, animals or other categories such as fungus or fermented products like alcohol. Although many human cultures sought food items through hunting and gathering, today most cultures use farming, ranching, and fishing, with hunting, foraging and other methods of a local nature included but playing a minor role.

Understand Consciousness, Part II: Foods | NaturalNews

As talked about in "Understanding Consciousness" part 1, a large part of our consciousness comes from our thoughts and thought patterns. But a large part of our consciousness also comes from what we put inside our bodies. The foods we eat literally affect our consciousness and probably more than most realize.

Raw Spirit Festival

Raw Spirit International 2010 is a full three-day event featuring two stages (Lake and Meadow Stages) with mixed musical performers and dynamic health-eco-peace research presenters amidst stunningly-beautiful natural backdrops. Additionally, the Sacred Exercise Area (featuring an eclectic array of yoga, chi kung, tai chi, pranayama, poetry, prayers, meditation and beyond) is perched atop the lakeside cliff once again with spectacular vistas of the surreal jagged lake, it's sheer-rock shores and many islands. The Raw Vegan Demos and Tastings are once again in the Hilltop Pagoda with sweeping vistas of panoramic mountains.

Take GM Corn off the Shelves! - The Petition Site | Care2

The shelves of our grocery stores are filled with genetically-modified (GM) vegetables, also known as Frankenfood. But what's scariest about Frankenfood is not simply that scientists are manipulating DNA, but that they are not testing it before the food is sold to the public to be consumed!
